Employee Spotlight – Nourishing Dreams

March 27, 2012

1 little girls PattiMy passion in life is food – I love to eat it, I love to make it, and I love to show others how to make it! I even like creating new recipes, to see what works, and what doesn't. While I've had a few failures in that arena, my overall experience is YUM!

When I'm not at, I operate a catering and vegan diet education company. I am a raw food chef and consumer, and one of my favorite things to do is to show other people how easy it is to incorporate more plant-based foods in their diet. I frequently lead cooking classes at a local grocery store, as well as at a live foods restaurant in Santa Cruz. While I don't mandate that others eat the way I do (I follow a vegan diet), participants in my classes are frequently blown away by how delicious dishes like live lasagna can be, and they're completely plant-based. I even make non-dairy cheese! It's rewarding to watch people's faces as they try out these undiscovered treats. They really get that eating healthfully isn't all that hard, and they feel better, too! And it’s not hard to get started, either.

Inside my passion for nourishing foods, I also support an organization called The Hunger Project. You know the story about if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, and if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime? Well, the Hunger Project works to empower people — not give them fish, or teach them how to fish — but how to work with their governments to tear the fence down that's around the lake! The Hunger Project does awesome work: people learn what they need to do to partner with their governments to build schools, latrines and medical centers for their communities and how to create and sustain small businesses. I visited several of The Hunger Project communities in Ghana in 2006 and was amazed by the difference between communities where The Hunger Project has been for five years, versus where they're just starting to work. The Hunger Project has impacted the lives of over 22 million people in Africa, Latin America, Bangladesh, and India. I support them with both my money and my fundraising efforts.

Working at is a nourishing activity, too. This team is dedicated – not only to our customers, but also to each other. We're like a family — and it's a warm, fun, and highly productive place to work. We love what we do and for whom we do it  – You!  We're committed that you win the game of managing your accounts payable and receivable so that you can do what you do best — take care of yourself, YOUR customers, and nourish your dreams.
