Q: How did you get into your line of work?

MontPac Accounting Outsourcing Services; Accounts Receivable Outsourcing and Outsource Accounts Receivable based in Honolulu, HawaiiI grew up in a small town in Ohio where every business was small business.  Later in life I became CFO of large, public global companies. But I never forgot that the small businesses of the world need the same professional financial management that large companies can afford. Pre-Internet, I founded an outsourcing firm that centered on finding economis in having common functions (such as accounts payable) prepared on a consistent, volume basis. When the Internet matured I was working more in Asia and was struck by the cost effectiveness and capabilities of people of the Philippines.  That, and a modicum of boredom with my retirement in Hawaii, led me to found MontPac nearly five years ago.

Q: What have you learned through the school of hard knocks?

Principles always prevail and  if you adhere to them you can get through anything. Our values at MontPac are people, clients and long-term.  There is no decision that I have to make where those values fail to provide guidance.

Q: What keeps you up at night?

Client service that falls short of our high standards is the only negative that comes to mind. Actually I’m kept awake more by the positives. The incredible opportunities that globalization has created for so many.  The Philippines BPO industry has provided immense benefits to that country’s professionals.  The combination of globalization and the continuing advancement of technology revolutionizes mundane processes like accounting. That thrills me. The productivity enhancements of the future are wonderful to contemplate.

Q: How has Bill.com helped your business chase its dreams?

Bill.com has reduced the costs of our digital archiving of accounting documents and the processing of accounts payable.  For our clients, it has reduced the costs and efforts of printing, folding, stuffing into an envelope, and then mailing checks.  This is one fabulous productivity tool.  We essentially mandate Bill.com for all of our clients on accounting platforms that can use Bill.com. From the time I first visited the Bill.com offices in Palo Alto in November of 2009 I realized that they had a superior product that creates significant value for its users.  Thank you Bill.com!
